Student laboratory notebook of Walter S. Niedringhaus for a course in embryology, histology, vertebrate dissection, and organology given by the Washington University Medical Department. Course bulletins of the time indicate that the instructor was Victor E. Emmel, PhD. The notebook is a unique artifact from the immediate pre-Flexner period of the school's history. Niedringhaus is not listed among later alumni of the school, nor is his name to be found in physicians' directories of the time (Polk's and American Medical Directory). The course bulletin for 1911 lists him as a sophomore (second year) student, living at 6024 Cabanne Place, St. Louis.
